However, when Chen signed on as part of Skyforged Engineering's security department, he found out how things really were in the city. Through his work, he's seen how the large corporations use their security forces liked hired thugs. Ordering them to commit acts of corporate warfare against each other, or to force smaller competitors out of business. When they aren't hurting other businesses, the security personnel patrol the streets around their corporation's buildings, almost as if they were gangs protecting territory.
Chen quickly realized that the MDZ was much different than he had imagined. Any dreams of starting his own business and getting rich seemed to become impossible. Chen continues to work as part of Skyforged's security force, but he hates his job more and more every day. He feels trapped, he doesn't enjoy his work, but the alternative could be starving to death, or homelessness. Chen also feels frustrated with the lack of culture in the city, and how sterile everything seems. He seeks out other people from China, looking to connect and form friendships with people in a similar situation to his. Chen still wants to make his fortune some day, and he doesn't care what he has to do to get it, even if it's criminal. The corporations have already proven themselves to be criminals in his eyes.
